NFTs on Billboards, Galleries, and eBay
It seems that NFT art is appearing all around us and being introduced in unusual ways. Billboards exhibiting digital art are showing up in major cities; eBay is getting into the business as a new platform to give artists another avenue to sell their art; and pop up NFT art galleries are coming to cities and tourist destinations across the globe.
Digital Billboards in a City Near You
Billboards surround us and bombard us with ads all over cities and busy thoroughfares. Here comes SaveArtSpace, a non-profit whose mission it is to take back billboards from hyper-advertised neighborhoods and create an urban gallery experience. The company gives artists opportunities to show their creativity to communities and inspire the public. Last month, SaveArtSpace collaborated with NFT collector GmoneyNFT, to exhibit LarvaLabs’ CryptoPunks on billboards and public spaces throughout Miami over the course of a month. This physical project called “Pixelated” broadcasted the NFTs creating a buzz and energy around crypto art. Now that same team is bringing “Pixelated” to New York City and the CryptoPunks will be found on bus shelters, phone booths and billboard signs in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens. If you want to check it out for yourselves and go on a Punks-hunt, click here.
For a quick refresher on the CryptoPunks project of 2017, 10,000 characters were created and were originally given away for free with only the “gas”or “minting” fee charged for the cost of the transaction. The series was done to expose digital creations as something of value. Fast forward to today and some of the Punks sell for millions of dollars each. On May 13th, Christie’s offered up a single lot of 9 CryptoPunks which sold for $16.9 Million. Now the Punk characters will be plastered throughout NYC creating more interest in the small pixel-art portraits of people, zombies, aliens, and apes who feature different hairstyles, accessories, colors, and shapes.
NFTs Launch on eBay
Online marketplace eBay has decided to join the party and allow NFT sales on its platform. eBay will permit approved sellers to list NFTs and sell them for up to $10,000 but is planning on expanding their parameters in the future. The company is considering accepting crypto currency payment options and is working to simplify NFT transactions with new tools. This is big news for the NFT marketplace as 35% of all US mobile users access the eBay app annually. With roughly 182 million active buyers and twice that many eyeballs checking out the goods, NFT’s are going to attract many new fans.
Dallas is Making its Mark with NFT Pop-Up Gallery
Artist Uprising and Landmark Center have teamed up to showcase “individual art pieces by breakout NFT artists.” Their goal according to Artist Uprising CEO Merrick Porchéddu, is “to introduce forthcoming NFT drops to the art collector community worldwide while putting a spotlight on Dallas as a rapidly emerging art and tech hub.” Furthermore, she adds they would like “to introduce the public to the craze and educate new collectors on how to bid on digital artwork that will bring in an ROI that is unconventional to historical art trading.” To find the gallery, check out Landmark Center’s downtown building in the West End during the first two weekends in June.
