Collectible Projects: Part 2
Historical Collectibles
There are various multi-million-dollar Ethereum projects that date back to the origins of NFTs: 2015-2018. Many of the first projects were created and then abandoned as there was no interest. Some of these include MoonCatsRescue, a project consisting of 25,600 pixelated cats minted on August 9, 2017; Curio Cards which predate MoonCats, and are going to auction at Christie’s this October, and CryptoArte-an NFT art collection from 2018 which tells the history of Ethereum. All three of these original projects have historical value and due to their scarcity, there is high demand along with skyrocketing prices.

Artists, celebrities, and entrepreneurs are jumping into the market and presenting projects of their own. Last week we highlighted the CryptoPunks, Bored Ape Yacht Club, Cool Cats, and Ether Rocks. (Ether Rocks being the only one which had historical value). Today, we will investigate other new projects to take note.
The Burning Artwork
Renowned English artist, Damien Hirst decided to launch an experiment to see if collectors prefer the digital art versus the traditional physical artworks on paper. He titled his project “The Currency”. It was unveiled last month and includes 10,000 unique hand-painted A4 sheets covered in colorful dots. Each unique piece was sold to approved collectors for $2,000; however, the collection came with its own set of instructions. Once a collector purchases a piece, they must decide whether to keep the digital NFT or trade it in for the physical painting within a year; whichever is not chosen is then burnt. Currently, 1,571 NFTs have been resold on the secondary market totaling $26,345,475 in sales.
Art Blocks Project Sees Big Money in Generative Design
Fidenza #313
Art Blocks, launched late last year by Erick Calderon, uses blockchain technology to attract a sizable new audience for computer-generated works. An unexpected by-product of Art Blocks' success is the emergence of the resale market. Pieces which initially sold for $30 to a few hundred dollars, now go for tens of thousands on OpenSea.
Tyler Hobbs, a visual artist from Austin, Texas, who works primarily with algorithms, has showcased his artwork through Art Blocks. Fidenza, Tyler Hobbs's most versatile generative algorithm to date, “sold the entirety of his latest collection of abstract art, comprising 999 works-before anyone had actually seen it,” within just 28 minutes. Furthermore, some of the Fidenza series pieces have now been resold for impressive sums; recently Fidenza #313 sold for 1,000 ETH, amounting to just over $3.3 million USD at the time of the transaction.
World of Women
Another interesting project that recently launched is World of Women. This project was created by Yam Karkai and her mission is to “empower women by making them the center of her pieces.” Furthermore, “World of Women aims to bring in more diversity and inclusivity to nfts…in this male dominated space.” This project launched on July 27 and all 10,000 tokens are sold out. 15% of all primary sales will be reinvested in cryptoart, 2.5% of primary sales will be donated to 3 great causes supporting women. This project was available for purchase at .07ETH/each (approx. $225) and are currently being resold for between 25-100 ETH ($81,250-$325,000).

It is incredible to watch and participate in these drops. It seems that people are drawn to these projects and want to feel that they are part of a community even if the community exists in the Metaverse. It is something that links individuals together and is increasingly becoming part of the current culture. Let us know your thoughts on these projects and whether you have purchased any, want to get into the game, or think it’s not your style.
